Hold your horses, it's time for a Kentucky Derby party! What better way to plan a party, than to start with party supplies. Purchase or make invitations with horses on them. Buy Mylar horse balloons and light green helium balloons. A horse piņata will add fun to the party. Purchase animal paper plates and don't forget to get party favors! Use brown tablecloths and accent with green plants and green plastic/paper products. Because a derby party tends to be for people of all ages, with lots of activities, plan on a variety of finger foods. Let people eat whenever they want to.
Plan activities for the kids centering around the Kentucky Derby. For the first activity, have relay races using stick horses. Provide a fun obstacle course for the kids to maneuver. For the next activity, split the kids into two to four groups. Provide each group with a straw hat and all sorts of ribbons, feathers, etc. Each team is to create a Kentucky Derby Hat and have a team member model it.
