Columbus Day has been celebrated in the United States for more than 80 years. For this special occasion, a party may be in order. Having a party to honor one of the men who brought the new world to America should include themed party supplies such as ships and Spaniard tableware items. This day gives parents and teachers the opportunity to educate the importance of Christopher Columbus and his contributions.
Another way to educate, as well as entertain children on Columbus Day, is by printable games. There are many printable games for Columbus Day, which include word games, word search, word find and word scramble.
There are numerous party games and activities for Columbus Day. Farm Buddies Whisper the name of a farm animal in each player’s ear. Make sure that each farm animal is allocated to at least 2 (with a trio if number are uneven) children. Explain to all children that they have to find out who their partner is, but can only ask ‘yes or no’ questions. The first pair to find each other are the winners of this game.
Another game requires children to form a circle, with hands joined. A Columbus is selected to stand outside the circle, an America to stand inside. The players are friends of the America player, and raise their arms to let him under, but prevent Columbus from entering. Columbus chases the America in and out of the circle, until the America is caught. Encourage children to tell stories and facts of Columbus before a new round begins.
